Problem Playground
Graphite Pencil / TV & Cinema Crafts / Production Design / 2009
Problem Playground introduces the new Honda FCX Clarity, the first zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell car to go into production. Opening on abstract block colours wiping across the screen, the shot turns out to be an extreme close-up of a Rubik's cube. An army of Honda workers then build a sculpture of Honda’s hybrid engine using thousands of these cubes. Inspired, the team complete similarly challenging puzzles, each one representing an engineering problem solved by Honda, such as building energy efficient solar panels. The crowd moves on to build an enormous jigsaw model of the new Honda FCX Clarity, as Garrison Keillor’s voice-over explains that when you love finding solutions, every problem becomes a playground.
