V&A Uncomfortable Truths Poster
Wood Pencil / Illustration / Graphic Design / 2008
Uncomfortable Truths: The Shadow of Slave Trading on Contemporary Art & Design was an exhibition commemorating the bicentenary of the parliamentary abolition of the slave trade. This poster is part of the identity developed by NB: Studio, with applications across a range of print material, ads and signage. The core identity is based on colourful ink droplets, which have been manipulated into silhouettes of African profiles. Conceived to reflect the notion of stereotyped identity, a different head emblem was used to represent each of the 11 contributing artists. The campaign is punctuated by these colourful profiles, and the use of coloured inks is echoed over a variety of applications to create a vibrant and coherent identity.
