The Great Exhibition, Royal College of Art, Summer Show
Wood Pencil / Environmental Design / Exhibitions / 2008
In 1857 the Royal College of Art moved to its South Kensington home. To celebrate this 150-year anniversary, the RCA proposed The Great Exhibition 2007. The idea for the show gave us, the design team, a whole new set of ambitions beyond that of the traditional degree show. Instead, we created a major public and professional exhibition. Over two sites, this provided a showcase for the work of 450 students across a number of disciplines and encouraged them to raise their standards for a much larger and more critical audience. The success of the exhibition can be measured in visitor numbers alone – confirmed attendance of 72,000 people over a two-week period, more than double previous years.
