WERK No.13: Jan de Cock Special
Wood Pencil / Magazine & Newspaper Design / Entire Magazines / 2007
'Werk No. 13' takes its cue from contemporary Belgian artist Jan De Cock and pushes the boundaries of print and art direction. De Cock's installations are aesthetic responses to the architecture of his working sites; at once functional and creating interventions in the space. For Tate Modern, De Cock created a series of installations and sculptures – 'Denkmal 53' – extending beyond the second level gallery and throughout the visitor circulation routes. Built mainly from green plywood, the wood-grain aesthetic in 'Denkmal 53' was mimicked in the side elevation of 'Werk No. 13'. Laborious die-cut techniques were also employed to echo De Cock's complex work. Photographed by Kirby Koh, 'Werk No. 13' progressively documents this project at the Tate Modern.
