New Blood Entry — The Climate Miscarriage Tax
The Case for Her & Project Drawdown / 2022
On average, women are more vulnerable to the effects of climate change than men. But there’s one subgroup of women that’s particularly at risk: pregnant women. Research has shown that air pollution increases the risk of miscarriage by 50%. But instead of clamping down on the biggest culprits of air pollution in Canada (the oil & gas industry) our government rewards them with billions of dollars. We wanted to make the link between air pollution and miscarriage impossible to ignore, and speak directly to politicians and legislators in language they understand. So we created “The Climate Miscarriage Tax,” a tax that holds Canada’s top polluters accountable for their impact on maternal health.
