New Blood Entry — Union of Unpaid Carers
21GRAMS / 2022
On average, an unpaid carer spends 41 hours a week caring. The equivalent of a full-time job, without the rights or recognition of a paid role.
Unpaid carers are workers and should be recognised as such. But they don’t have time to fight for what they deserve.
So we’re forming the first official Union of Unpaid Carers, to fight for them – giving this invisible sector a community and a voice.
From home health checks to workplace insurance, the union will provide round-the-clock support for its workers, and will campaign to change the legal definition of ‘worker’ to include unpaid carers.
