On the 11th of March 2011, Japan was devastated by an earthquake and a tsunami. People remember the disaster but are unfamiliar with what happened afterwards. Three abstract animations – Tragedy, Overcoming the Monster and Rebirth – deliver the story of this natural catastrophe and Japan’s revival. The red circle in the films represents Japan and it’s people. The animations show the red circle firstly being battered by the earthquake, then fighting the waves of the tsunami before rising up once again. In conveying this emotional journey, the animation is supported by powerful Japanese traditional music played by Taiko and Gong.
