My new media career started in the mid-nineties when I picked up Creative Review’s award for the UK’s most promising talent and the Creative Futures Award for designing the UK’s first University Degree Show CD-ROM, which was also the first ever interactive production featured at D&AD’s Student Expo.
I went on to design the Snickers MegaBite website, which Campaign magazine described as Mars’s first real attempt to establish itself on the Internet, which won the Marketing Design Award, the MacUser Maxine and an EPICA. When I was 28 I was the world’s most awarded new media designer.
I’ve co-founded and been the Creative Director of two agencies; Head New Media, which became the digital arm of Lowe in 1998, and my current agency Underwired. Together with Felix Velarde, a business partnership in its fifteenth year, we have focused on excellence and measurable results for heavyweight brands, including Sony Network Entertainment, Harveys Furniture, McCain Foods, News International, Peugeot, ASICS, Nickelodeon, Economist Group, New Media Age, Virgin and AAR.
I have judged at various awards such as BIMA, DMA and am a D&AD mentor for New Blood students. I also lecture at Colleges, Universities and the SCA about design excellence and creative thinking in the digital space.
In 2011 my long history in digital media was acknowledged by one of my first websites being included in "10 websites that changed the world" http://www.managementtoday.co.uk/features/1102817/10-websites-changed-world
Specialties: Interactive design, creative thinking within a commercial environment, keeping usability at front of mind (with very high production standards) – but having fun while I do it :)
