Jazz
Wood Pencil / Book Design / Entire Books / 2014
This book presents an array of illustrations, infographics, facts and anecdotes covering the early days of the New York Jazz scene in the 1920s. The collaboration between artist Robert Nippoldt and jazz expert Hans-Jürgen Schaal brings together vivid depictions of Manhattan from this celebrated time alongside profiles of the scene’s luminaries, which includes icons like Louis Armstrong and lesser known lights such as Joe Venuti and Alberta Hunter. The style of the illustrations and the book’s typography – along with the design of a CD made especially for the collection – offers a graphic unit.
